As an Eagle Scout of troop 508 I look back on my time in scouting fondly. Learning to backpack in the Emigrant, chasing rockets in Death Valley, capture the flag at Dillion Beach, all of these things remain close to my heart. One of the most important messages scouting left with me was the value of curiosity. I will not bore anyone with the life "wisdom" of a college student but I will say this, scouts taught me to embrace new experiences. This is one thing that has stayed with me since my earliest days in troop 508 and still plays a roll in my life today. If I could tell a new scout one thing it would be to have adventures, you never know what you will find if you just look. Go an extra mile(or four more!) on hikes, use summer camp to learn a new skill (the forge at High Sierra is really cool), make a new friend (long car rides are perfect for this). Explore! The world is a big place.
PS. remember your knots, they’re useful.
